What was a flesh wound compared to a scarring heartache? It was nothing but a spindle to the finger belonging to a beautiful briar rose, at least she slept soundly in her universe; her other-worldly nature. The Medicine cat’s icy sapphire gaze was unusually gloomy as he stared into the depths of the millpond; he and the cool water lay in the back of his den, to the furthest, most private room available to him. Disturbed, he watched with enigmatic orbs, lapping up not the serene fluid, but what he saw. He had never questioned the legitimacy of the images, or the small animations that flickered past his mind; he did not assume they were authentic, nor did he assume they were fictitious either… they simply were. Some were memories he recalled, and others he was unclear of whether they were figments of his imagination or not. Was it the future, or just reality? Was it present reality? Brittlebreeze’s brow fumbled slightly, trying to make sense of the vision he perceived, but his efforts were in vain.
There was a shuffle in the silent room. It stole his attention, and he leaned back towards the entrance to steal a glance. There, in the clearing of the warren stood a lean tabby warrior. Eclipsewind The name instantly came to mind… He was Hawkstars son, and a Warrior of ShadowClan, obviously; Ravenpelts half-brother. Though the mottled tom had never gotten to know Eclipsewind personally, it was not hard to tell, even from a distance, that he was a reserved and laid-back character. A throat cleared, and a quiet but firm mew was uttered: Howlingheart is having her kits.
Brittlebreeze already knew that she was going to have them soon, he just didn’t expect it to be this soon. With swift paws, he slipped towards the leveled cleft beside him and took delicately bramble twigs, cobweb and coltsfoot. He didn’t really have much of a thought about much; he was still in denial about the most contemporary Medicine cat meeting at Highstones. How could his mother say that to him? Even from StarClan, she should know him almost as well as he knew himself… she would know that the possibility of Brittlebreeze ever moving on was impossible. He could never move on. There was no ‘condone’ about it. What Glenpaw had done hurt him, and he suffered every day. She could move on and have her family and her mate and her prince charming, but he would forever be damned this stinky, solemn den; she may preach that he left her alone many times, but he tried to be there for her, of which times overrode the negative amount greatly. She left him there hanging forever. He would be alone, and she didn’t even think about that. How lonely it would be to be a Medicine cat… such a lonely, glum path to walk. To be a Medicine cat, was a point of no return… a lonely, somber life to live.
For what she had done, he could never forgive her. For what she denied and broke, effortlessly, as if it didn’t wound her; he could not forgive. Willowpool told him to fight for his dreams, but to let those who were never his go. Maybe Glenpaw was never his, but it felt like she was. At a time, she had given herself to him and he had given himself to her. It was an equal exchange, one without necessary words. She took his trust and love, and stomped on it. Maybe he became Medicine cat, but he wanted her still. Could she step back and understand the choice and offer he’d been given? To become a Medicine cat was to become a soldier of StarClan; to heal and to save lives. She offered no respect, no peaceful leave of full understanding. How could she waltz in here and assume his position for a temporary two minutes, and push it back at him? How could she say such mean things and expect a warm ‘Okay’?
It was idealism that things would always go the way she wanted them to. But what he had thought to his mother, bitterly sincere, his only dream defied his destiny, and now he would live in suffering. That was his purpose.
His purpose was to save lives and ruin his own.
Coldly, he stalked past the tabby Warrior and into the clearing; leaf-covered herbs tightly in his jaws. To which he waited for Eclipsewind to guide the way, and both warriors soon entered the Nursery. It was warm in there, and cramped. The Medicine cat didn’t notice Glenpaw until he realized just how confined… Scowling upon sight, his forehead furrowed in turn. Icy moonstones were suddenly fierce, and his adrenaline pulsated through his veins, surging lava to his very core. Hatred. He scoffed at her comment about Whitewhisker, and indignantly, he muttered a curse. She of all cats being here was bad luck. He wished she would go away somewhere far.
"Whitewhisker is injured, maybe you should go and inform him," He growled, "Besides, the den is too small to maneuver in with an audience. How do you expect me to birth kits? Set them in the den walls until it's over with? Out you two. I'll let you guys know when they're born." He flicked his tail, before turned to the Queen herself.
“I can’t give you anything to relieve the pain, but once it’s over with, I have bramble twigs to help you sleep. Tonight will be peaceful for you; your kits should all be healthy.” He gave her a light smile, to assure her the best. In any event, if she started bleeding, he had cobweb with him to keep her from dying.
One last glance to the apprentice and the young warrior; his expression then was like wintry stone.

All the queen could feel was the pain from the kits. She wanted it to go away, but it wouldn't die down. "it'll be okay, howlingheart. brittlebreeze is on the way. just breathe for me, please?" She could tell that Glenpaw was a little scared of what to do right at this point. She could feel the apprentice's nose in her fur. She was breathing, she wanted this point get over with already so she could see her beautiful little sunshines. She was glad that Brittlebreeze was here, she felt a lot more calmer, but still felt the pain. "it's gonna be beautiful," the bengal queen couldn't wait to see them. "i can't believe whitewhisker is going to miss it," Howlingheart wished her white and gray mate was standing beside her instead of Glenpaw and Eclipsewind. Even though she didn't mind them being there, it would be nice for her mate to be there for the birth of his kits.
"Whitewhisker is injured, maybe you should go and inform him," the medicine cat didn't sound like he was happy at that point. Howlingheart didn't really know the whole story between him and Glenpaw, but it must have been hard on him and her both to go their separate ways in providing for the clan. "Besides, the den is too small to maneuver in with an audience. How do you expect me to birth kits? Set them in the den walls until it's over with? Out you two. I'll let you guys know when they're born." She listened to the pawsteps that were leaving the den. She liked that there was room in the den, but it also felt a little more lonelier with just her and Brittlebreeze, but not for much longer. “I can’t give you anything to relieve the pain, but once it’s over with, I have bramble twigs to help you sleep. Tonight will be peaceful for you; your kits should all be healthy.” She didn't like the sound of that, with the pain being there until the kits were born. Howlingheart wanted the pain to go away now, but she also wanted kits to come now. She was ready for them to come out into the world.
Howlingheart couldn't wait for newest additions to ShadowClan to come. Pain struck up as a kit was born. She wouldn't know what the gender was or how the kit looked liked. There it went again, more pain. She was becoming weak with the pain rising, how many more kits were there going to be?

. a s p e n p a w . be strong, believe
aspenpaw was in his nest, doing what he was always doing. thinking. it had been only a few sunrises since the ceremony had occurred in shadowclan. since brittlebreeze had become his mentor. since he had been named to follow the path of a medicine cat. every time he thought about it excitement wound in his stomach, making him wonder if this was all just some absurd dream of his. but deep down, the young cat knew it wasn't. he also knew that there was a sense of responsibility that came with training to be a medicine cat. he knew that people would be depending on him. thats why he was glad that he had brittlebreeze to mentor him.
a voice startled aspenpaw out of his daydream. howlingheart is having her kits.
surprise made him lift his head. kits? aspenpaw thought curiously. he watched silently as brittlebreeze slipped to his feet, still lost in thought. he then swiftly moved to where the herbs were stored, grabbed cobwebs and an herb that the young apprentice did not quite recognize. his eyes hardened, and he stalked past the warrior who had informed him, eclipsewind. aspenpaw quickly got to his paws, unaware if brittlebreeze wanted aspenpaw to follow him. brittle...breeze...? he started. but he was a moment to late, he was already headed toward the nursery. he's seemed to forgotten that he took on an apprentice, aspenpaw thought crossly, lashing his tail. he began to trot after brittlebreeze, pausing at eclipsewind. he dipped his head formally. thank you for informing...us, he mewed, before racing after brittlebreeze to the nursery. he entered shortly after brittlebreeze did. brittlebreeze scoffed at glenpaw. "Whitewhisker is injured, maybe you should go and inform him," the medicine cat growled at the she-cat. "Besides, the den is too small to maneuver in with an audience. How do you expect me to birth kits? Set them in the den walls until it's over with? Out you two. I'll let you guys know when they're born." he then turned to the queen. “I can’t give you anything to relieve the pain, but once it’s over with, I have bramble twigs to help you sleep. Tonight will be peaceful for you; your kits should all be healthy.” brittlebreeze seemed to know exactly what he was doing. but why was he in such a bad mood? he hadn't been exactly happy since he came back from highstones. aspenpaw went beside brittlebreeze, hoping that the medicine cat would be aware of his presence. brittlebreeze, aspenpaw asked, determination hard on his face. his green eyes were shining with admiration. what can i do? notes;words; 453 muse; ok tags; howlingheart, brittlebreeze [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Glenpaw felt herself shrinking back into Eclipsewind as Brittlebreeze entered the den, despite the fact that she tried to stay strong. Ice blue eyes cold on hers, the medicine cat ordered them out, to go anywhere but there, and she felt a tide of sadness and anger swell up within her heart, but suddenly, it was gone. Her blue gaze was steady and calm, and with a polite nod to the medicine cat and a gentle smile towards Howlingheart, Glenpaw led Eclipsewind out of the now cramped nursery, into the pouring rain.
It soaked her tabby pelt and clouded her vision, and yet the sharp cold was refreshing to her. She loved the feel of it on her pelt, how it darted in to prick her skin and nose and made her smile. A laugh bubbled out of her, and she spun around to face Eclipsewind.
"well," she cried through the thundering sound of water splashing against the damp ground. "now what?" Glenpaw danced closer to the dark tabby tom, her glass gaze sparkling with happiness. Taking a deep breath full of fresh scents and new beginnings, the small apprentice plopped down beside the tom, feeling thoroughly exhausted. Maybe they could just sleep there, in the middle of the clearing, in the pouring rain . . .

The mottled tom ignored the warrior and apprentice as they slipped quietly out of the den. If there was anything he wanted in the world, any one thing he would beg for, plead his soul for, it would be to go back in time. Just maybe he could have changed something, somehow… but his heart knew it, and his mind knew it; that it was done with. And it hurt.
For a moment, he stared into Howlinghearts eyes, reading blindly the alarm and agony that emitted from her. He sympathized with her. It was torture having kits, but it was one joy that he cherished. New life was a beautiful thing, perhaps the only truly pure thing that he had learned this far. He used to be excited for kits and be fond of them as they fought over a ball of moss… but it was different now. They were the future, and he was helping bring them into the world. Rare warmth entered his gaze; it was a reassuring light, and it glimmered brightly in his azure depths…
Brittlebreeze was aware of Aspenpaw, his apprentice, behind him; his green eyes wandering and curious. Undauntedly, he beckoned the pale patched tom closer with his thick tail. Brittlebreeze, what can I do? He mewed; and his fortitude was blatant. He smiled calmly, and butted Aspenpaw's shoulder with his head. "I want you to hurry back to my den and grab a little Narcissus Flower Petals, and hurry now or you'll miss the lesson!" His intonations were serene and unruffled, but as his order ended, his tone was sharp. How else would Aspenpaw learn how to help a Queen give birth? Blinking, he turned back to the she-cat, and lightly purred to her, humming placidly, "Narcissus Flower Petals will soothe your mind." He rumbled, licking her reassuringly over her forehead.
He then suddenly was fully alert, and as a kit appeared behind her, he hurried to grab it. Tenderly, he broke open the sac it was in, and began to lick it rapidly. Rubbing its fur the wrong way, he waited, impatiently, for its first cry. Come on... None came, it only breathed, and its tiny mouth opened in a gasp for air; his whole expression softened, and he murmured a coo. It was the most adorable thing he'd ever seen; with it's little pink nose, and monochrome fur. He gingerly set it down beside Howlingheart, and waited for the next kit... and his apprentice.
As the gray bundle slithered into the atmosphere, Brittlebreeze did just as he did for the first; he broke open the sac and rasped his sandpaper tongue over its fragile body. It took a moment longer, but gradually, a shrill mewling was heard. He set her down beside her brother; and focused his icy moonstones on Howlingheart. How many more was she going to have? He was pretty certain that she was only going to have two, but an uneasy pinch made him question his previous evaluation...
"Everything will be fine. You're almost done."

. a s p e n p a w . think about the love inside the strength of heart
brittlebreeze, completely oblivious to the two cats who were in the process of leaving, stared at howlingheart. he was evaluationg and soothing her at the same time.his mentor's thick tale beckoned aspenpaw forward. aspenpaw bounded swiftly to his mentor's side, staring at howlinheart to see if he could pick up any of the thing's that brittlebreeze could. no such luck. so the apprentice was left wondering what exchange had happened between the medicine cat and the queen giving birth.
his eyes were drawn back to his mentor as brittlebreeze head butted him on the shoulder, obviously to get his attention. had his mind been wandering again? i tend to do that, his thoughts were interuppted yet again by his mentor speaking. "I want you to hurry back to my den and grab a little Narcissus Flower Petals, and hurry now or you'll miss the lesson!" aspenpaw nodded, staying in place for a moment. oh me?! he thought, running off, slipping on his own feet, falling and getting back to his paws like nothing happened.
the young patched apprentice raced to the medcine cat den where the herbs were soared, slowing to a stop as he approached the stocks of herbs. in his haste he looked over the white flower with the yellow middle a coulple of times before spotting it. he inhaled his scent, to check that it was the right flower before gathering a fair amount in his jaws. he then raced back to the nursery, skidding to a stop beside brittlebreeze. dismay formed in his eyes as he found that two of the kits were already born. i missed it? but... nonetheless the apprentice laid the petals next to howlingheart, unsure what to do with them. he then looked back at brittlebreeze. his eyes asked the silent question. what now?

Howlingheart was glad she had two kits. They were beautiful one though they looked like her from what she could see from where they were as she still laid in pain. The tom looked like Whitewhisker. She didn't know how many kits she was going to have, but she was thankful for the two she did have, but was there going to another one? She really didn't know but she is was still in pain and it was getting worse, but it was relieved when the last kit arrived.
She started licking the two by her side as Brittlebreeze took care of the last one. Now she had to name them, but what was she going to name them? If only Whitewhisker was with her, he would help name their kits. Their three beautiful darlings. "They are so beautiful. Will one of you tell Whitewhisker that his kits are born when you return for me please?"

As the very last kit crept into the world anew, sensations of awe and majesty engulfed the patched Medicine cat. It was unfortunate that Aspenpaw arrived a moment too late; the Narcissus Flower petals would be useless because it was over with. Three beautiful kits lay beside their spotted mother, searching for milk, their tiny mouths yawning toothless and eyes squinted; little mews and murmurs echoed around the den. His sapphire moonstones were warm like glittering fire, soothing and amazed as he scanned over the queen, approving of her position. He wondered briefly if he should give her some borage leaves, to help her supply milk for the kits; deciding ultimately he would send Aspenpaw to give her some before nightfall.
They are so beautiful. Will one of you tell Whitewhisker that his kits are born when you return for me please?
He could only nod. If that was her wish, then so be it; besides, they were headed in that direction anyway. He had to take back the herbs he brought with him. Flicking his tail to Aspenpaw, he slipped out of the nursery and across the clearing. "You'll get another chance," he murmured to the tom, his azure gems flickering around the open clearing. After that, he disappeared into the minty peppered room, his long thick tail trailing behind him.
He would make it up to Aspenpaw eventually, and Brittlebreeze didn't think Howlingheart was the only she-cat who was going to have kits.
oh my god this sucks. xD i kept losing my train of thought. 347
