This is probably rather after the fact, but how about eastern Ontario? The weather here is crazy at best, providing many plot twists! (Cold winters, hot summers, green winters, one snowy day in summer..I'm not kidding. One year it snowed in May. )

How about someplace that has balanced seasons: hot summer, cool fall, cold winter, and warm spring? It makes sense, and goes with the books. It doesn't necessarily have to be a specific place.

Well, in eastern Ontario, the weather is warm in the summer and cold in the winter. The rain and snow fall are both high and low, depending on the year.
