Seeing a worm wriggle down below, a young thrush desided to fly down for a closer look. She landed on a small patch of grass and began tugging at the worm. ***for some info on this thread, see the bottom post of Warrior Code

Fireheart smelled the scent of a bird, and quickly slowed down to a crawl and hoped Wolfpaw would do the same. He dropped into a crouch and stealthily began tracing the smell. "What can you smell, Wolfpaw?" He asked in a whisper.

Wolfpaw had been following along quietly and wispered back to Fireheart. ]"I think it's a bird Fireheart. But i'm not quite sure." She sniffed again, "Yeah I'm sure it's a bird. They were always around back at home." She looked to Fireheart to assure her guess.

Pleased Fireheart nodded. Keeping his eyes locked on the bird, he said, "now, to catch a bird, you must move quickly so as not to let it fly. The good thing is that a bird needs speed to fly. If you can knock it from the air before it gains too much speed, you will be able to catch it. Use your back legs to leap up to it, and use your tail to keep your balance. Do you think you can do it?" He asked in a confident voice.

Wolfpaw nodded silently and felt his back legs tence naturaly. She focused on the thrush, and only the thrush. She let it fill her mind and thought. Then, suddenely without warining, a young apprentice bolted from her resting place and ran to the thrush, paws barley seeming to touch the ground. She easily gained on the small bird when Wolfpaw stepped on a branch, creating a sound that caused the bird to look at her. Wolfpaw knew it was now or never as the bird opened its wings and took off. A black, orange, and white object jetted from the ground and flew herself towards the bird with her tail flicking back and forth like a rudder. She clawed its left wing with her claws, causing the thrush to stumble in mid-air giving Wolfpaw a chance to knock it out of the air easily. She landed with a thud back on the ground and knocked the wind from the thrush. With a quick bite out of instante (sp)she ended the bird's life and then turned to Fireheart. Her heart was thumping and a firece look filled her eyes. She enjoyed hunting, almost as much as she liked to explore.

Fireheart witnessed the hunt with wide open eyes. Wolfpaws power surprised him, and watching her trot back with the bird made him give off a very loud purr. "Excellent!" He exclaimed. "Wolfpaw, you hunt like a warrior! The way you jumped up and used your tail was perfect." He smiled and gave Wolfpaw a congratulatory lick on the head.

The hunting gleam in Wolfpaw's eyes was gone as she purred and walked to Fireheart. "What do I do with it now? I mean, I'm hungry, but if I wasn't hungry where would I put it? I can't always go back to camp everytime I catch something...or is that what I would do?" She asked Fireheart with a curious gleam now in her eyes. ooc: green doesn't always work

"If you wanted to continue hunting, you would burry your catch somewhere safe. When the hunt or patrol is over, you would come back to your stash and take it all back to camp then," he answered.
"Would you like to burry your catch somewhere, or are you hungry enough to eat it now? I hope to catch at least one more fresh-kill on our patrol today, so we will be sure to have some for the fresh-kill pile." Fireheart sat and waited for Wolfpaw to decide. He planned to continue their patrol towards the Falls, where he would show Wolfpaw the Thunderclan-Windclan border.

Wolfpaw was hungry, but the thought of continuing on the patrol was full of to much excitment that it caused her not to notice. "I'll bury it. I want to see the rest of the clan lands." With that she started to dig a hole in the ground to bury the thrush. With paws all dirty she buried the bird with loose topsoil and padded in down, then put a mark on top so she would know this was the spot. She turned to Fireheart and asked, "Where to now?"

"We shall continue to travel towards Falls, where I will show you the Thunderclan border. Keep your ears pricked for prey." Fireheart padded off in the direction of the Falls and began picking up speed.

Wolfpaw bounded after Fireheart happily. She had caught her first pray and was now finally getting warmed up by the sun. When her mentor started going faster Wolfpaw knew this must be a test of her speed. Or was it not? Either way Wolfpaw went faster herself coming up to be a fox's tail length behind Fireheart.
