the apprentice's jaws stretched open in a yawn as he stretched forwards, his front claws unsheathing and digging into the moist ground. his tail twitched behind him with the motion as he pulled himself back up to a sit and glanced around, a small smirk curled onto his maw as he rose to his paws. a thin layer of fog covered the under brush around the wooden bridge and nonchalantly, swiftpaw trotted over to it, head low and tail high as he stopped just before stepping on.
the tom's eyes narrowed at the bridge and the ravine right alongside it. he had been through here a few times with other clanmates but today, he was by himself and was going on a self-proclaimed "patrol." then again, he was up with the sun and hadn't wanted to go back and rest - if he did, he knew he would be feeling more than lazy during the day. he could have gone with the dawn patrol but he hadn't been picked to go with the group today.
almost cautiously, which was rare for the tom, he walked onto the bridge until he was in the middle and looked from over the end. sticking his head past the wooden supports, he attempted to look down at the river. the passing fish flitted about in the calm waters before darting off, almost as if spying him staring down at them. shifting his attention back up, swiftpaw thumped his paw against the bridge as if trying to catch the attention of an invisible audience.
"and here, i declare myself leader of this bridge!"
it wouldn't be the most memorable declaration of leadership since there was no one to listen but the noise-making bugs and the swimming fish. simply turning his head with an air of authority, swiftpaw stood and clumsily, nearly barreled forward as he lost footing on the moist surface. the front half of him jarred forward but thankfully, he pulled himself backwards and chuckled nervously.
eyes wide, he was silent for a moment before his stomach fluttered with embarrassment. at least no one was there to notice...

Pretty slender she-cat had been up and awake for about an hour more than our little friend Swiftpaw. The young apprentice was indeed picked to go on bloody ‘dawn patrol’. It wasn’t that Crystalpaw minded it…actually the time of day that it was bothered her a bit. Plus the doings that awaited her back in camp; changing the elders moss. Psh…that was a punishment alright. Silvercreek had allowed her to do a bit of hunting since there seemed to be a little bit of tension at the boarders- actually being a pretty sleek and fast hunter, Crystalpaw already had down two voles and a magpie.
A gray furred mouse was just moments away from its death, as she crouched silently behind some reeds watching it intently with a unwavering gaze…
It was then when the rustles of the undergrowth alarmed the small rodent, making it dash toward its cover. Sighing under her breath lightly she picked herself up into a standing position trying to spot the cause of the commotion…it was then when she saw Swiftpaws black & white pelt dashing towards who knows where.
Narrowing her minty gaze, she silently slipped quickly after his steps. Keeping a distance of a few foxtails behind, she stopped watching him closely as he pounced on a two-legged bridge; ‘and here I declare myself leader of this bride!’ she heard, the loud yowl making her twitch her listeners lightly. Flickering her tail lightly with amusement she watched him stumble hopelessly letting out a small giggle as she carefully jumped onto the bridge silently padding over to him looking down at him. & may I ask if this balanced leader is ok? she mewed in her silent delicate tone. Crystalpaw almost never spoke…though with Swiftpaw that rule seemed to change. They where inseparable…and you can pretty much say they completed each other.

swiftpaw licked at his paw, trying to act as if he had never fallen. well, there was no reason to worry anyway, it wasn't as if anyone else was - oh. a dainty giggle caused him to turn his head in the direction of the sound and he blinked almost in disbelief. as crystalpaw leaped over onto the bridge, swiftpaw curled his lips up into a quaint grin as she greeted him. he didn't expect for her to here, especially since she had been taken along on the patrol. tail curling around his hind paws, he sniffed the air, shifting his gaze from the water and back to her almost repeatedly. he was hoping to let the embarrassment was over before she noticed it.
hoping to sound as nonchalant as possible, he uncurled his tail from his paws, tapping her leg with it lightly. "you've got perfect timing, don't you?" there was a slight edge to his voice, though the lighthearted look in his eyes and small smile on his face let her know he was joking. "and to let you know, this leader is very balanced. you've gotta admit, i coulda fell into the water - but i didn't." the young tom finally flitted his gaze back over to her and tipped his head to the side. really, if there was anyone he wanted the company of, it was crystalpaw. he had to admit that he was glad she stumbled along the bridge and found him. despite his near fall.
"finished patrolling already that you've time to visit my bridge?" his tone was light and calm and he beckoned for her to come and sit along with him. though just before motioning for her fully, he rose his paw, cuffing at her with sheathed claws. "i bet you were spying on me, weren't you?" he asked, curious and inquisitive nature rising up to quiz her. then again, he couldn't blame her much for that. it wouldn't be a first for swiftpaw to jump up behind the she-cat in an attempt to startle her.

Tail flickered softly behind her as she watched him with amusement. Swiftpaw was the only cat in the entire world that the she-cat actually trusted in and spoke too…it had to do way back then, when the only thing they dreamed off was of killing moss balls and pouncing on some queens unprotected tail. They clicked almost at once, maybe because they were both up to absolutely no good what so ever although they always managed to have a blast where ever they went. Pretending they where clan leaders and killing invisible intruders. Oh being a kit was so much fun…now they had bigger expectations where waiting for them, & Crystalpaw strangely couldn’t wait.
A short cute giggle left Crystalpaw at his words. Dang! I would have paid to that!...That would be indeed priceless, she mewed softly, padding up slowly next to him looking out at the river. It was really quite a sight from where they both stood. Turning one of her ears towards him she took a seat next to him curling her spotted tail neatly over her paws making her slim figure look petite and fragile.
Not really. Silvercreek told me to go hunt and stay away from Windclan terriorty…seems as if something interesting is going down…, she whispered to him in a tempting tone. She crouched down as if seen by someone or something that might be listening. & I say we check it out! she whispered to him, deep down knowing they could get…probably murdered out there…oh such naïve minded. Getting cuffed at she smirked at pawing at his face softly before casting a lick on her own paw after drawing it away from him. For your information, I was not spying on you. You happened to scare probably your own share of fresh kill away with your badger clumsy footing! she teased him, a loud gargle of innocent laughing leaving her jaws as she proded him softly in the ribs with the closest paw to him.

with a roll of his eyes at another of crystalpaw's giggles and the following comment, he couldn't help but to laugh himself. of course she'd want to see him fall into the river. he had to admit that despite him being sop and wet if it had happened, if she was to fall on the other hand, he would burst out in a laugh fit - while on his way to make sure she was okay. for a moment, he pondered walking down closer towards the bank and then pushing her in, but that would be too much work. she'd figure out his plan by then. they did think alike when it came to things like that. he flicked his tail in amusement, simply happy that she had taken a seat alongside him. her comforting and familiar scent wafted with the light breeze, causing his shoulders to relax visibly.
almost abruptly, his ears perked as she continued. instantly, crystalpaw had caught his attention. the tom blinked, his jaws clamped shut as his eyes narrowed mischievously. a ripple of curiosity ran over his pelt and more than ever, he was itching to start heading towards the border. like all the other apprentices and clanmates, they knew about the tensions between riverclan and windclan, but just didn't exactly know all the details. the fact that the deputy had told their own apprentice to hunt elsewhere instead of patrol meant something had to be happening. he was just about to respond until crystalpaw's pad swept against his face.
"hey!" he huffed, chest puffing against as he rose his nose into the air. "that's no way to talk about me, leader of...of...the bridge!" he stammered awkwardly over his words, but lowered his head and tapped his paw against the wooden planks once more. looking at the surrounding area to make sure no one else was around, swiftpaw glanced back to crystalpaw, but made sure to keep his voice down to a whisper just in case anyone else came barreling along.
"we should do some spying at the border and see if those rabbit-chasing wind kits are up to no good," he made sure to keep his tone low as he stood, body low to the ground in a hunters crouch as he crept forward of the bridge. making sure to keep his belly low, his tail beckoned her to come along as if everything was a little inside game of theirs. "you up for it are you scared?" swiftpaw teased, lips curling once again into that sly grin of his.
he knew for sure his companion wasn't scared. they were both equal in bravery and swiftpaw was ready to start some trouble. or well, snooping.
paws light on the ground, this time he attempted not to sound like a badger, his lithe build making it easy to try and remain hidden among the small amount of brush. they wouldn't want to get caught by any other passing patrols or wandering cats. urging her on even more, the apprentice looked over his shoulder at the gorgeous she-cat. "when you think about it, its been forever since we got into some action. things have just been so boring. so just to make sure you're still on top of your claws, you should stay behind me crystalkit." he was really having too much fun with this and sooner than later, it would be some kind of competition.
