"I will be free, and when I am, I would give you my heart."
Calypso awoke to a ray of sunlight shining through a slit in the barn roof. The light hit square in her face, into her bright blue eyes. Groggily, she stood up and stretched out her calico legs. Yet another boring day in the old barn. Calypso couldn't bear these sort of days; when the sun gave her no warmth, the mice tasted bland, and the hay felt like someone else's bed. She called these her sad days, for she had no real reason to be upset; she just was. Sighing, she hopped down from the top level of the barn, to hay, then to the floor. Fortunately, it was a cloudy day. Not too hot, nor too cold. The wind stirred her fur, and she could smell rain on the breeze. She had a love/hate relationship with storms; she hated to be caught out in one, but inside of the barn, listening to the rain on the tin roof and watching the lightning light up the normally dark sky, was beautiful. Calypso strolled out of the barn and looked around, trying to catch a scent on the wind. All the birds had hidden, due to the coming storm. Perhaps a rabbit or vole would be her dinner. She started to walk away from the barn, out into the field. "Hopefully the storm will hold off until I get back," she thought. These were the perfect days for a walk, and her bad mood started to lift slightly. If only something would happen. Anything really; just to give her day a slight bit of electricity.

In the fall of a sparrow.
x.x the tom cat watched as a leaf snapped of the branch of a tree and landed on the dusty ground. he sighed and felt the rain smelling breeze stir is spiky fur. the clouds were moving swiftly and the sun was jumping in and out of their cover. the tom rolled over onto his back and was surprised to see how spotted the sky looked. the tomcat grinned and took in another deep breath of rain. he loved the way rain smelled, and his dark brown eyes shimmered with a special cheer.
the tom got up and stretched his back, forming that classical cat pose. the fur along his spine rippled and he let out a massive yawn. this was a great day so far, the weather was perfect, he could hear prey larking about in the bushes. birdsong filled the air, which was surprising since rain was on the way. oh well, i'll never understand birds. such strange creatures, beautiful creatures, but still strange, the tom thought as he began to walk.
he had no idea where he was going, he just wanted to walk. maybe he would even run, he liked running. the brown coloured tom with the spiky fur on top of his head meandered aimlessly around the forest, listening to the gurgle of the river as it flowed with the sound of the birdsong. tranquility...thats the perfect word to describe the forest today! as the wind began to pick up, he felt the first drops of rain. a big fat one landed on his nose and rolled down his whiskers.
the tom's tail dropped slightly, for he was hoping for a light sprinkle so that way he could stay in it. but he knew that the fat d[ops meant hard pour, and he heard the crackle of thunder way off in the distance. that means lightning is splitting the sky apart, and the tom did not feel like getting stuck by a bolt today. so the tom took off with amazing speed. well, he did say he might want to run.
soon, after crossing away from the forest he came to an abandoned barn. fantastic! the tom thought cheerfully and with out stopping, he ran into the barn, only to slowing because he saw the shape of another cat. 'oh, well hello there! mind if i stop and dry off here for a bit?'

And, we would be together, always. Calypso heard the steps of a fast-approaching animal. Ears flattening against her head, she whipped her head around. A brown cat was running into the barn at full speed. Their eyes met, and his pace slowed down. 'oh, well hello there! mind if i stop and dry off here for a bit?' Calypso's eyes widened, then narrowed quickly. She hadn't been near any other cats in a long time. The barn had come to feel like her home. It was as if this new cat was an intruder. She lashed her tail to get rid of the thought. "Well I was just about to head out...Has it started raining already?" Calypso glanced over to the entrance of the barn, and saw big drops of rain falling from the darkening sky. "Drat.." she muttered under her breath. There went her whole day..."Yes ye can stay here." Calypso replied to the stranger, dipping her head. A loud crash of thunder erupted from the sky and sent Calypso flying into the air. She was such a spazz when it came to loud noises. Soon came the splinter of lightning sizzling down. Calypso winced and edged towards a bale of hay. Why did she act like a complete nut when it came to storms? She either was good with them, or was terrified. Perhaps she had been alone too long....

Sweets for the sweet.
x.x the tom saw the she-cats eyes widen and watched as her tail lashed. hope she's not a loony. sometimes loonies can be fun, but it depends on how 'loony' they are. the tom babbled on in his own head for a moment, the she-cats voice bringing him back to the earth, 'well i was just about to head out...has it started raining already?' he was about to make some smart comment, something like, 'no, those big drops of water falling from the sky means it's sunny out! why don't ya try hunting?' but surprisingly, he wasn't rude. he listened to the she-cat mutter something like, 'drat' and looked around the barn. it seemed...cozy. 'yes, ye can stay here.'
suddenly the loud growl of thunder erupted through the air and he watched the she-cat go flying. he rolled his eyes and thought, great... a claw of lightning flashed and lit up the entire barn for a moment. he saw the she-cat back slowly to stand next to a bale of hay. 'oh, i've forgotten my manners, i'm the doctor. i travel alone, and i've been doing that for a long while. i come from a land very far away from here, and i enjoy running.'
he ran off his short biography, and then jumped up onto a bale. the doctor wondered if the she-cat would ever introduce herself, and while he pondered on that he shook his fur and sent millions of tiny drops of water everywhere. his fur was still streaming, but he didn't care that much about that. now he wondered what to do. the tom didn't like to sit around and do nothing. it just wasn't him. and he didn't want to hunt, for he was not hungry. this was the flaw in traveling alone. no one to keep you company. yes, there was another cat in here, but she was a stranger. not that the tom was not good with strangers, it was just so different from being with a friend. he shook his head and waited for something to happen.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

If only you had a heart to give.
Calypso saw the tom's reaction to her 'is it raining' comment. One sentence out and she had already made a bad impression. What was it with her and strangers? 'oh, i've forgotten my manners, i'm the doctor. i travel alone, and i've been doing that for a long while. i come from a land very far away from here, and i enjoy running. Travel? The word itself made her excited. "Where all have you been?" Calypso asked, blue eyes brightening. He doesn't even know my name, she thought. "Oh I'm Calypso by the way. I'm not really used to new people, as you can tell." she let out a laugh and looked up at the doctor. "I was born in the clans, but I became a loner with my father. As the storm settled into a pattern, she began to relax. As long as she knew what was coming, she was alright. Calypso thought about laying down on the hay across from the doctor, but she had too much pent up energy to sit. With a smirk, she turned away from the tom and headed towards the opposite side of the barn. Perking her ears, she waited for a noise. There, to the right of that hay bale. Fast heartbeat, mouse? Yes. Calypso crouched down into the hunter's pose and crept towards the hay bale. She was feet away from it, and she could pounce in three, two, one. With a powerful lunge and claws un-sheathed, she leapt onto the mouse. Trapping it under her paw, she sank her claws in and bent down to quickly nip it's neck. Picking up the small creature, Calypso headed back towards the other loner. Finding a bale opposite from the doctor, she jumped onto it and settled down into the warm hay. "Hungry?"

--so open your eyes, your ears
Gorseclaw chose that moment to pad into the barn. He was freezing, sick of being rained on, and eager to take cover in the dingy, but cozy looking barn. It didn't matter that Gorseclaw wasn't a loner, and thus didn't really belong in barns. Warmth was a universal need. As was companionship. Not that Gorseclaw specifically wanted the companionship of Calypso and The Doctor. He had other reasons for being in the barn with the two friendly looking loners.
Gorseclaw had actually been standing outside the barn, in the rain, for a little while. He had seen The Doctor walk in, and had become interested enough to eavesdrop on the friendly conversation that the tom made with the she-cat that resided in the barn. The two now sat on bales of hay opposite each other, Calypso with a vole in her mouth.
Gorseclaw's heart was thundering in his chest as he escaped the pouring rain, and took sanctuary in the barn. He wasn't sure as to whether it was the storm that was freaking him out, or the inevitable conversation with the two cats in this barn. Gorseclaw was really no good at talking to strangers. Even so, he was here, and it seemed like the world was waiting for him to quit being a coward, and just say something.
And so as the cat called Calypso ashed her companion if he was hungry, Gorsepaw asked: "Mind if I step in for a minute?"

becoming strangers to our friends.
x.x the doctor felt a wide grin spreading across his maw. oh sometimes it would be so much eaiser if cats could just read my thoughts, but he froze when he caught the scent of another cat. the fur along his back prickled and he wondered why. then a few ticks later the cat decided to show himself. 'mind if i step in for a bit?' then again...maybe it's best i keep my thoughts to myself.
slowly, he rose from his comfortable spot on the hay and glanced at the figure. the rain was still pouring down outside, but in the barn it was warm and dry. he decided that he would try and accept this stranger as a good cat. it was so interesting to see how he reacted to cats who where loners and cats who weren't.
'uh, hullo,' the doctor almost whispered the greeting. he wrapped his tail around his paws and then gazed at the stranger, his big brown eyes letting no emotion escape.

Would you do it? What would you? What would any of you be willing to do?
Why was the Doctor grinning so broadly? She hadn't done anything that deserved to be mocked. Calypso was just trying to be civil and polite, something she wasn't used to doing. Especially since she never had company in the barn. She had thought that being nice to this young cat would make her feel good about herself, and make the other cat feel at home. So much for that. "Mind if I step in for a bit?" The sudden, unfamiliar voice shook her from her thoughts about the Doctor. Whipping around, she saw the new cat, already wet from the rain, standing in the doorway of the barn. She narrowed her eyes; she could tell this cat was no loner or rogue. Clan cat, she hissed. The anger that flamed up inside of her was unexpected, and she didn't like it. Just because her mother had been a clan cat, didn't make her bad. Even though she seemed to give her up quite easily. Calypso shook her head to forget those memories. She had tried to secure them in the back of her mind, but this stranger had dislodged them. Calypso wouldn't make that mistake again. "Why are you all the way out here, clan cat? Aren't you a little far from home?" Calypso growled. She knew she was being harsh to the newcomer, but she wanted to make sure he was okay; not like some of the other clan cats she had heard of. Calypso glanced at the Doctor, to see what he thought of the cat.

it was raining. the pale blue rain drops fell carelessly from the sky drenching everything that didn't care to take shelter. it had started small, picking up to make the marsh a place you didn't want to be. yet a small black and white apprentice raced across it anyway, the muck staining the white parts of her pelt brown. she twitched her ears, straining to hear something in the rain. he said he wouldn't wait for you, maplepaw muttered to herself, speeding up. he won't start without me, he's too much of a coward for that, she smiled graciously, unsheathing and sheathing her claws as she ran. the barn was far enough away that by the time maplepaw arrived she was winded and muddy. she didn't care. her green eyes shone with excitement, this was her time to shine. well...hers and gorseclaw's. she rolled her eyes at the thought of his name. i dont even know how he became a warrior she sneered inwardly. the big shape of the barn came into view. maplepaw hesitated for a moment before entering.
she walked in calmly, her green eyes hostile. "Why are you all the way out here, clan cat? Aren't you a little far from home?"
the voice of the loner was harsh and hostile. but it wasn't directed at her, it was directed at the tom beside her. gorseclaw. obvsiously he had been talking. she gave him a sideways glance frowning at him. midnight said not to talk. she mewed, wrinkling her nose at the warrior. jeez, your such a coward, she sneered. here she was, an apprentice, able to walk into the barn without feeling afraid. she could faintly hear gorseclaw's heart hammering in his chest. with a low growl, she sunk to the ground, pressing her belly to the ground and looking from cat to cat, deciding which one to target. i got the she-cat, she thought, bunching he muscles to spin. with a great leap she soared into the air, claws unsheathed, ready to sink her claws and teeth into the calico she-cat's pelt. Never knowing who or what you are until you're living with the unfamiliar.
x.x the tom shot a glance back at calypso, trying to understand what she was thinking. 'why are you all the way out here, clan cat? aren't you a little far from home?' interesting...she treated me with somewhat of a welcome, but she is very hostile to the clan cat. while he was working out his thoughts he noticed a black and white she-cat enter. she was younger, but her eyes where lit up with hostility.
she murmmerd something to the other tom and within moments she had leapt into the air, aiming for calypso. he casted a glance at the other tom, and he took in a quick sniff. the cat was a clan cat, yes, but something else laced the clan scent. yes, it was shadowclan like, but it was more...vile. he curled his lip, hoping that calypso would be able to hold her own in battle.
letting out a bloodcurdling yowl he leapt at the tomcat, aiming to knock the cat over. he was relying more on the force of his attack, rather then his weight, seeing as these cats where bigger then him. luckily, he was still just a bit taller. he would be able to use that height as an advantage later on in the battle.
i can see you standing in the smoky entrance, giving up your good intentions.
[OCC: haha, yeah..NOW THE FUN BEGINS! and i'm too lazy to put anything else right now.]

--i dare you to tell me
Gorseclaw forced himself to stand his ground under the scrutiny of the two loners before him. "Why are you all the way out here, clan cat? Aren't you a little far from home?" Calypso's cold words made Gorseclaw flinch away from the she-cat and her brown-eyed acquaintance. Gorseclaw honestly wanted nothing more than to back out of the barn and sprint away. Even so, he knew that it was much to late for that. The nervous tom had a mission, and it was imperative to his well-being that he carried it out.
Through the rain, Gorseclaw sensed the presence of another cat. Before he had the chance to make himself look even more like an idiot than he already had, the she-cat made herself known in the barn. Gorseclaw forced himself not to breathe a sigh of relief as Maplepaw immediately took control of the situation. The confident apprentice eyed him with distaste. "Midnight said not to talk. Jeez, you're such a coward."
Gorseclaw wanted to say something smart back, but before he could form the words, his fearless partner sprang across the barn, aiming for the other she-cat in the room. Gorseclaw couldn't help but be kind of shocked. Even though Maplepaw was doing exactly what she was supposed to be doing, he couldn't believe the sheer stupidity of the small apprentice, attacking like she was invincible.
Or maybe I'm just spineless and she's the smart one. Gorseclaw wondered. But the time for thinking was up. Maplepaw had blown their cover, and there was only one thing left to do. Gorseclaw narrowed his amber eyes, quieted his thundering heart.
Without warning, The Doctor knocked Gorseclaw over. The large tom easily overpowered Gorseclaw, who lacked much fighting experience or the weight to stop the hit that he was dealt. The blow shook Gorseclaw up a good amount, but the dark tom managed to regain control of himself just enough to counter The Doctor's blow with a swipe of his right paw. Gorseclaw's aim was slightly off, and, though he aimed for his opponent's face, he wasn't even sure that his awful strike would graze his ear.

Would you sail to the end's of the earth and beyond to fetch back witty Jack and him precious Pearl?" Calypso saw the new cat, a smaller and lithe one, start into the barn. She felt the mood in the barn shift dramatically. Something was wrong, very wrong. She automatically tensed, her short hair prickling on end. Calypso unsheathed her claws, this newcomer was not friendly. ""Midnight said not to talk. Jeez, you're such a coward." The black and white apprentice, for Calypso realized she was rather young, spat at the tom cat. They must be acquaintances. If a cat ever talked to me like that, I'd shred them! The other cat, the tom, seemed to relax as this apprentice came in. She's right, he is a coward. Just as she thought this though, the black and white she-cat sprang at her. What?! Calypso instinctively dropped into a battle pose. Shoulders back, claws outstretched, and her power put into her back legs, Calypso was ready as the she-cat was in the air. She calculated the probability of the cat hitting into her. Since she was coming from below her, she needed much more power to reach her. And she had the advantage, being on higher ground. With a grin, Calypso waited for the cat to reach her. Right as she was inches away from the hay, Calypso side-jumped to the left away from the enemy's claws. "You'll have to try harder than that, little kitty." Calypso licked her fangs as she taunted the younger cat. Calypso was much more experienced than this cat; she could just tell. She had been living on her own for so long, she had learned how to fight and survive like a true wild cat. Calypso had learned everything the hard way. Blood and tears were shed figuring out how to live by herself. Calypso took a short glance at the Doctor; he had successfully landed on the strange tom cat. Good. She then directed her eyes to the enemy cat and concentrated. She would not let herself be beat. Trying to figure out her next move, she shifted her weight to her left side, and charged towards the black and white cat. She felt her muscles bunch in her back legs as she aimed her sharp claws to the side of the cat.

in the mere second that she had sprung off the ground the male loner had sprung to life. he had obviously instantly noticed the she-cat's hostility and maplepaw attacking didn't make it much better. the loner known as the doctor flung himself at gorseclaw, knocking him over. maplepaw had her own problems to worry about. the she-cat wasn't as dumb or useless as maplepaw thought she would be. she had also sensed her hostility and gone into a defensive stance, her shoulers back, and paws forward, unsheathed of course. it made maplepaw outraged that the female known as calypso smiled at her. smiled. maplepaw was inches away from digging her ivory claws into the calico loner's pelt when she side stepped c.ockily, allowing maplepaw to fly paws first into a stack of hay. maplepaw removed herself from the hay quickly, straws of hay sticking to her already muddy pelt. she spat a straw of hay at calypso as she spoke. "You'll have to try harder than that, little kitty."
|
the young apprentice's green eyes burned at the loner's sneer. she was taunting her, trying to get her angry. or perhaps she was just being honest. whatever, she's a loner, maplepaw thought narrowing her eyes. she'll be easy to beat. why don't you should your mouth loner, she said, meaning the word as an insult. why don't you go find some cozy two-legs to live with? she snarled, baring her teeth. calypso ran at her, bunching her muscles and aiming a blow for maplepaw's left side. shit, she thought trying to get out of the way. but this she-cat was older, faster, and stronger than the she-cat was. she managed to leap halfway out of the way, but the she-cat's claws tore lightly down her side leaving a medium sized scratch. the pain only made her angrier, and more determined to beat the loner. i can take on anyone, she growled. the blow calypso had landed on maplepaw had put her in a good position for her next attack. she was by the front of her body closest to her head. without warning, she raked her paw down the she-cat's face, hoping to claw up her ear badly. You...You have a touch of destiny about you. Calypso chuckled as the cat flew into a bale of hay. Her first defensive move had went well. So far she didn't have a scratch on her, and she hoped to keep it that way. Strange cats couldn't just come into her barn and attack her. That was not how things worked around here. This was her place. She could tell that the cat was furious at her comment. But who could refuse taunting someone who had that much arrogance? Hey, the truth hurt. If this cat thought the battle would be easy, she was wrong. The blood that ran through Calypso's vein was boiling and thicker than the clan's so called 'warriors.' "Why don't you shut your mouth loner?" "Why don't you go find some cozy two-legs to live with?" Was that supposed to upset her? Being a loner was one of the things she prided herself on. She didn't have to follow anyone else's commands, wake up at certain times, fend for ayone else. A loner was a perfect life, at least for her. The impact of Calypso's claws into the she-cat's pelt sent a shiver of excitement up her spine. She hadn't fought a battle in a long time and this was interesting. i can take on anyone, "Maybe in your little clan world." Calypso replied back with a snap. With that comment, Calypso felt a searing pain across her face. She could feel blood trickling from a gash in her ear, and down her cheek to her neck. For a second, her heart raced. Did the claws hit her eyes? Blinking several times, she calmed herself. She could see, a bit blurry from the impact of the paw, but her eyes were fine. She could feel a hole in the top of her right ear though. That'll leave a scar, she thought with a wince. Glaring back at the black and white cat apprentice, she hissed. "You wretch! " Calypso growled, baring her teeth. "You chose the wrong cat to mess with, you piece of clan trash." Calypso rolled her shoulders back, flexing the muscles; and spit the blood out of her mouth. This was war. Trying to figure out her next best move, she examined the demonic she-cat. She still had her paw slightly in the air, so that meant she only had her weight on three legs. She racked her brain to try and remember what move would best be used in this kind of scenario. Aha! With her poker face on, Calypso jumped against a higher up hay bale, and then immediately at the black and white she-cat. Like pinball, she would be able to hit one surface, and then into another. Even though she didn't have much momentum, she had the element of surprise, and again, she was attacking from above the cat. With her mouth open, she clamped her teeth into the back of the cat's neck. With her claws, she hooked them into it's back. Perhaps it would seem a little under-handed, but whatever worked.

If it doesn't kill you it's sure to leave a horrible scar
x.x the doctor's left paw erupted with pain when it was slammed into his enemy's right paw. it was a block, and a good one too if it made the doctor's paw nearly break. he was sure it was just a sprain, but in the thick of a fight he would have to worry about it later. around the blood rushing through his ears he was able to make out calypso and the clan apprentice talking dirt to each other. in between speech the she-cats would fight and the skinny tomcat wondered if calypso was going to be okay.
and while he was concentrating on the she-cats, he felt a pawful of claws land right in the centre of his face and a hiss escaped his jaws. blood flowed from the puncture wounds on his face and for a moment he was blinded. he took a step back, trying not to let himself panic. he wondered if he did the right thing, just leaping into battle. he normally tried to talk things out before fighting. but he shook his head, right now he could not think of words to say and he was risking another blow when he didn't pay attention.
when he shook his head, blood flew off of him and he was able to see. gorseclaw was in front of him, and the she-cats were fighting away from them. his sharp claws slithered out of his paws and he flicked his tail. the doctor's chocolate brown eyes were now tinted with a red haze, and he knew that was from his own blood. his lips pulled back and his fangs were revealed. yes, the doctor would try and talk to this cat, he might have a chance with the tom because he did not attack right away. he could tell the she-cat would be useless talking to, but maybe...just maybe the other clan cat would be able to see some sense.
the doctor leaped into the air and landed behind the tom, wincing slightly when his left paw hit the floor, and slowly started to circle him. no, talking won't get through to these cats. we'll just have to fight... now he thought of battle moves. the only way he would be able to figure out the cat's weakness was by fighting him. and so, he turned so he faced gorseclaw's right side and charged, hoping his head would feel ribs crash against his skull.
