Silverwolf looked around at her Clan mates. She was about to speak to Fadedstorm when everyone was silenced by Dawnheart's voice. "Many of you may be wondering why I am up here, rather than Emberstar. . . Last night, our leader succumbed to the sickness that had been dogging him for the past half-moon and has left to join StarClan." Silverwolf froze at those words. She couldn't move nor speak. It was like she was paralized, like a million badger claws had just gone right through her chest, and into her heart; Like a million rocks just came tumbling down on top of her. It was heart-breaking. Silverwolf absolutely loved Emberstar, and now, the worst had come. Dawnheart would now become Dawnstar, and there would be a new Deputy. So deep in her thought, Silverwolf didn't hear the rest of what Dawnheart had said, except that they had buried Emberstar already. Still frozen, stomach twisted, Silverwolf almost leaped off of her paws and had a complete spaz attack. Luckly she was too much in shock to even move still.
Silverwolf soon came back to her scenes. She didn't want to think about this anymore... It was too painful to think about. Then she heard Dawnheart call Eclipsepaw and Lillypaw up to the Highrock. Silverwolf was proud of Eclipsepaw, but the thought of Emberstar still sat deep in her head. Memories flooded back to her. Then she stopped herself, and thought, for everything in this world, even the worst of things, had a good side to them. In this case, Dawnheart now had to choose a new Deputy, and that could possibly be her. If it was, Silverwolf's heart would be filled with joy, but she would not do much, not look happy or excited, a bit of glee in her eye from being chosen to be deputy, but there would be nothing to celebrate... Not when Emberstar had just moved onto StarClan.
Clearing her head of the thought of Emberstar once and for all, Silverwolf watched as the two apprentices sat up on the highrock. Today, Silverwolf would hopefully become a mentor, and even better, a deputy. Then she shook her head. Was she getting to ambitious? The chances that Dawnheart would choose her to be the deputy was probably the same chance any cat had... Well, most anyways. Then Silverwolf wondered what it would be like if she were leader, and had to choose a deputy. It must be really hard since the formal leader would have joined StarClan. Silverwolf knew it had to be done as part of the warrior code, but she didn't know how Dawnheart could bare standing up there announcing a cerimony, and the death of not only her leader, but her mate. Silverwolf would probably collapse in sadness if it were her mate. She managed to move her head to look around at her Clan mates, most of them in just as much shock as herself.

dawnheart seemed dangerously calm up on the highrock. and why dangerously? the pallid she-cat could see through the feline's strength. being her companion, and also a good reader of others' emotions, she could tell that it was taking her friend everything she had to plow on like this. snowstorm listened to her leader-destined clan mate, feeling a lump rise in her throat as the pangs returned. the clan was growing stronger. but it would take a while for emberstar's passing to become only a memory.
though she didn't doubt dawnheart's ability to run the clan just as efficiently, and though the clan could handle much more as a whole, she had her worries.
there came a ruckus nearby, causing her to c.ock an eyebrow. craning her neck the slightest bit, she caught site of fireclaw - being the irritable moron she tended to be. after her ceremony, she seemed so awfully worse off than before. as if snowstorm hadn't been agitated by her before. but today wasn't about her. it definitely wasn't. but her attention drifted from the ceremony and the ruckus. back to jasperkit, who seemed so strong yet vulnerable beside her.
the kit seemed so distant. so small and insignificant, belonging to the rest of the world he lingered in, and distracted from reality. it was a sad sight, almost causing her lobes to shift backward. but then he turned and straightened up, and she knew he was troubled, but would be okay.
'it's sad why we have to gather, huh?' a light frown flickered at the corners of her lips for a split second, her inner strength hesitating. to lose a leader such as emberstar was enough of a blow. but to see the kits he left behind like this, to see the entire world he had to be torn away from. it was like a final blow to her vulnerable points. the impact was horrendous.
the only response she could bear to muster was the light dip of her cranium.
it was a sad, sad day.. 'today's my apprentice ceremony.'
|
ah.. so it was. the happy ceremony, emberstar's final ceremony, seemed so long ago now. so lost and innocent. back then, it didn't seem like things would be the way they were today. and in reality, so soon. but she allowed the faintest sliver of a smile to grace her lips. it was the least she could do. "that's good. i apologize for the fact that i can't be your mentor." she had russetpaw to take care of. and he was probably aware of that as well. not that she enjoyed teaching the apprentice. the work was worth it, but his attitude tended to reel him completely off course and onto her nerves. not that she couldn't take it. but truly, she preferred Jasperkit. even as the ceremony went on, the gloomy atmosphere never died. and yet, she had to have faith. the clans had bounced back from everything thrown at them; thunderclan was no exception. everything will be alright.. » STATUS: finished. » TAGS: ceremony. » COUNT: 520. » NOTES: i feel horrible.

His gaze shifted to Fireclaw once more. The irritable feline wouldn't dare come over here to harass Snowstorm. Jasperkit couldn't do much of anything against a full-fledged warrior, but he would try. No one deserved to be snapped or swiped at because they were clearly sitting in conversation with another Clanmate. The young tom was beginning to see what lie outside the nursery walls. Though he'd sneaked out - numerous times - he'd never come in contact with anyone hostile. No one like Fireclaw. That was the truth.
He'd heard the tabby warrior Hazelpelt tell of her outing in which she met some rogues. It was an attempt to enlighten them. Make them feel anxious to become warriors? It worked for Jasper, of course, but the other were a bit wary now, he supposed. Though Scoutkit was still willing to ramble about with him against orders. He shook his head at the red-coated warrior.
As his cranium shifted sideways, he spotted the white warrior's face slip into a small frown. It disappeared in an instant, but there was something about her. The way she seemed to collapse all emotion up. Not really willing to let it out. Happiness and joy, kind of. He'd seen that first hand from that day in the snow. Ah well. One day he'd buck up the nerve to ask about her. About her life.
There were rumors and stories of love gone wrong. Murders. Suicides. Such nasty things. Had Snowstorm ever been in love? He mouth popped into a tiny "o." Would he ever fall in love? His lip twitched at the thought. It was distract him from what he'd have to do. His deputy duties. And then leaderly duties. Boy, would his father be proud.
"I wonder if I'll see him when I become leader!" He thought with a tiny twitch of his tail. Something inside the older kit knew his father was resting well. And that the sickness had left him forever. He'd be up in StarClan waiting for Dawnheart and the others. And he wouldn't leave. The thought comforted him. He stared at Briarkit for a second. He should probably mention that to him after the ceremony. And to Scout and Apple, of course.
"That's good. I apologize for the fact that I can't be your mentor." The white female meowed. It shocked Jasperkit. For one, he hadn't expected her to sound so close. His mind-wandering left him so out of it sometimes. And the second reason - and the most important of all to the little tommy - she'd wanted to mentor him. He gave a tiny grin and pressed his head against her shoulder. He was getting quite tall. "Ah, you'll be able to watch my apprentice test. My momma's picking you as deputy. I can feel it."
[OCC: KAY, SO JASPERKIT WAS RAMBLING A LOT. AND I WAS. A HELL OF A LOT. BASICALLY, HE'S TRYING TO BE HIS USUAL CONFIDENT SELF. ALWAYS TRYING TO THINK OF THINGS TO MAKE HIM FEEL BETTER. AND HE THOUGHT OF HIS DADDY WAITING FOR HIM AND GIVING HIM A LIFE probably won't happen, poor fella BUT HE'S SO WILLING TO FOLLOW OF HIS FATHER. SOMETHING THE OTHER KITS DON'T SEEM INTERESTED IN. UHM. THE REASON HE'D BEING ALL "OMG SNOWSTORM" IS CAUSE SHE WAS NICE TO HIM BACK IN THE DAY. WHEN NOBODY PLAYED WITH HIM SHE WOULD YADA YADA. SO, YEAH. HE'S NOT BEING A CREEPER AND TRYING TO TURN HER INTO A COUGAR. PROMISE. ♥ WOW THIS OCC NOTE THING IS LONG. KAY, IMMA STOP.]

As Silverwolf watched Eclpisepaw and Lillypaw head up to the highstone, she couldn't help overhearing Jasperkit chatting with Snowstorm. She wanted to ask them to be quiet so she could listen to the ceremony, but she was still too sad to speak. Then she heard Snowstorm apologizing for something, but Silverwolf missed exactly what he said. Although, she did hear Jasperkit say. "Ah, you'll be able to watch my apprentice test. My momma's picking you as deputy. I can feel it." Silverwolf's heart sank. Had Dawnheart told her kits who she was picking to be Deputy... Well, they were her kits, and Jasperkit would probably know his mother better than any cat. Therefor, he may be right. If Jasperkit was right, then Silverwolf's hopes of becoming a leader had been lost. It would turn into nothing but a dream; a memory... She sat silently, and turned her head back to face Dawnheart and the two apprentices.
Muse; Not very good... Words; 161 Notes; I just posted because I haven't done any RPing in a while because the people in the threads my other two characters are in are wither gone or just aren't RPing in it very often... And this ceremony is going kind of slowly, but I was dying to RP... Even though there isn't much to RP right now because I made a pose just 3 posts ago.... ~Sigh, then runs off to go search for Eclpisepaw and Lillypaw so meeting can continue~

Her light emerald eyes shined with pride. It was almost an honor to see everyone so happy tonight. She knew it was almost a sad time to lose their leader but at the same time she was strong and nothing could stop her. Her heart belonged here, and with her clan mates and she knew as well as anyone else she had a duty to fulfill. As she sat there, her mind consumed her with many thoughts of why she was still struck hard about the leaders death. She was never really close to Emberstar, but she did remember the time which he invited her on a patrol when no one else would. She didn't have a mentor at the time either. It was a happy time for her, and she knew she was closer to him than she thought.
She then heard Dawnstar speak so gently about her mates death. It was a wonder to her why the young leader tried to hide her emotion, because Eclipsepaw could read her emotion easily. She knew the leader was bothered by it and she couldn't help but to feel a bit sorry for her. They were mates, and they had kits together. She knew deep down inside, Dawnstar was very much so in pain.
She then heard Dawnstar speak her name, telling her to step forward. She did so, and padded ever so softly up to the highrock. She was nervous now, and knew that she was going to receive her warrior name now. It was only a matter of time before she could start mentoring, and be a very good one at that. She stood beside Lilypaw, her kithood friend, and smiled softly at her as she looked at Dawnstar, and meowed, "I do. I promise to server the clan to the best of my abilities."
ooc; lateness... i've been busy with trying to get prepared for my senior year.

"Scoutkit, Jasperkit, Briarkit, Spottedpaw, and Mintpaw, please step forward." His mother meowed, scanning down at them. Eclipseheart had just received her name. Jasperkit nudged Snowstorm and whispered, "That's my cue!" He purred with excitement and pranced forward. His tail was high, and the grief was still fresh in his gaze, but he kept a happy smile. He twisted his head and motioned to Briarkit. The most reluctant of the brothers. He lifted his chin high to stare at his new leader.
"Scoutkit, Jasperkit, and Briarkit. Today marks your sixth moon of life, from now until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Scoutpaw, Jasperpaw, and Briarpaw." Her voice was tense with strain as she looked down upon them. Jasperpaw raised his tail and beamed at her. Trying to tell her everything would be alright. "Leaflight, you have served as a warrior for quite a few moons now, and you are a fantastic warrior, I hope that in mentoring, you can pass that knowledge on."
Jasperpaw's energy was on high. Who would get Leaflight as a mentor? Jasper had never really interacted with the young warrior. But he hoped she was nice. Even if she wasn't his, his brothers would need a kind mentor. "Jasperpaw, Leaflight will be your mentor." Jasperpaw scrambled over to the small she-cat. She hadn't made a move over to him yet. Was she disappointed? "It's a pleasure," he purred, dipping his head. Reaching his muzzle up, he tapped his nose to her's. He looked over at Snowstorm and then back at Leaflight.
"Excuse me for a minute." He trotted up to white female and cleared his throat. "Apprentice coming through. Don't worry. Soon the whole forest will fear me. Jaspersoul. Deputy of ThunderClan." The surname "-soul" was his father's. He made it a dream of his to have that as a warrior name. Any name would do. Much like Jasperpaw was fitting him right then. "I wonder why the apprentices are sitting vigil though. Weird, huh?"
[OCC: I LOVE JASPERPAW! ♥]

Leaflight saw the kits step forwards and She smiled. I know that they will be great apprentices. She looked around the group of cats, many of them would be great mentors, like Lilacfeather was to her. She sighed inwardly, how she hoped that everything she had learned would be able to be passed on to an apprentice some day.
Her name ran throughout the camp...had she just become the mentor to Jasperkit...Jasperpaw now. Leaflight just sat there, astounded. When Jasperpaw came over to her, she attempted to smile, but, it was no use, she just sat there. "Pleasure." Her purred to her. She was joyful, truly. They touched noses and that was it. He excused himself and Leaflight simply nodded. He looked like he was so joyful, so confident.
Leaflight never took the time to get to know the kits. Which, come to think of it, would have been a good idea. She loved her clan with all her heart, but she never took the time to really make many friends. Any free time was spent wandering or alone, near RiverClan's territory looking out into the river. Watching the sun shine on the waters during the warmer moons and the almost black ice have snowflakes dance across it during the cool moons.
She watched her new apprentice with a happy gleam in her eye. She couldn't wait until the next day. She was going to take him to sunning rocks, her favourite place in all of ThunderClan territory. After all you need to have a bond before you could teach. That was what Lilacfeather had told her on her first day of training. Although, Leaflight never appreciated or understood what she, LilacFeather, had meant before now. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TAGGED ! She watched as all the kits were called up. She blinked at Scoutpaw, a kit she had known since he was in the nursery. The kit was just great. He was really nice and a good friend. She loved ThunderClan cats so much and her heart clenched when she thought of all the loyal and nice cats in the clan. She blinked gently when also Lilypaw was called up. She looked towards the ground when she got her warrior name. Leafpaw, only having a few moons of training until her mentor had retired to the elders den and soon died because of a bad wound.
The clan was short on warriors at the time she was supposed to get a mentor. She hadn't gotten one. She was an apprentice with Lilypaw which made her feel even worse when one of her good friends was made a warrior when she had made it a goal to be with her when the new names were called. No. She was sitting in the back of all the warriors, she had been there before, having done nothing the whole day like a kit.
She was so afraid that her name wouldn't be called, and Scoutkit would get his warrior name called before her and she would be a burden to the clan she loved and was loyal too. It kind of hurt. And she thought of Emberstar. She actually had never talked to him privately, so she didn't know how her felt and who he was really. You don't have to know your leader to be loyal to him. She missed hearing his voice and she knew Dawnstar was hurt but her voice showed promise. She was going to be the leader for a long time.
She blinked softly as she realized that she probably wasn't going to be called again. And she sighed and watched the other cats watch the new leader.

Scoutkit sighed and turned his head towards Sandstream, she had always been there, just like Dawnheart and Emberstar had been. It felt good to at least be able to stand by her, when his brother was mad at him, his father hunting with starclan, and his mother up on highrock, doing what she must do. No, you did nothing wrong. Everyone has their own way of grieving. Scoutkit nodded his head and glanced down at his paws. Ever since last night everyone had been different, Dawnheart quiet, Emberstar...gone, Jasperkit acting like he was going to be a leader too, Briarkit had been detached from everyone, but worst of all was Applekit because she’d been in tears all last night. Though Scoutkit had tried to be there for his sister...he always was the one that was able to make her smile and had always been closer to her than any of his brothers. He had lied beside her, and promised he’d be big for everyone, not matter how small he was. If Briar is sad in a different way he will get better, he would know that Emberstar wouldn’t want this.
Just give him time, and as for being big for the ladies in your life, I think that’s an excellent goal. The small tom looked up at the she-cat and smiled back as best as he could. Then I’ll still be big, Applekit’s still really sad, and I know Dawnheart’s sad as well she’s just being strong for everyone. I just hope Briarkit comes around...he’s got to be him again, and he will. Scoutkit said slowly and glanced at his brother who was still across the clearing from Scoutkit. Brushing his tail across his paws, the tom glanced up at his mother as she spoke about Emberstar, he knew this all of it...and tuned it out, glancing off to the side, but started seeing the cats reactions and quickly looked at his paws.
The kit was in his own thoughts when he heard Lilypaw and Eclipsepaw’s names being called. They are becoming warriors!! He thought a small spark of happiness running through his pelt for the two she-cats, one of which had been like an older sister to all of the four kits. Lilysong got her name and Scoutkit said it happily with the rest of the clan, wanting to run over and congratulate her. Yes his father had just died, but he had to be big, and be happy about the good things that are happening, remember the sad but get going on all the happy. Tell me Scout, do you want to be an apprentice sooner, or later? The question caught him off guard and he glanced up at the she-cat and then glanced over at Lilysoul and then off towards another apprentice he’d known before she’d moved from the nursery, Leafpaw. He had heard about all of their training, and how every warrior had to do that. Yes, to be big and take care of my family...I have to learn to actually well fight, even though I’m the smallest of my litter mates.
Scoutkit noded his small head towards Sandstream, I really want to be an apprentice. Sitting in the nursery would just be sad..because it would give me more time to think of Emberstar and if I’m training then I can get my mind off of that. I know Briar might think it’s bad...but I don’t want to be sad, Dawnheart probably doesn’t want us to be to sad...I want to be big and learn to well take care of her and the others. He said and lowered his head, biting his lip at the end. He still felt like tears could come and just start falling, but he really didn’t want to cry. He would always remember his dad, but he needed to be able to remember him, love him, and still be able to go on and grow up to be the best warrior he could.
scoutkit, jasperkit, and briarkit. today marks your sixth moon of life, from now until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as scoutpaw, jasperpaw, and briarpaw. Scoutkit’s breath stopped and quickly his green eyes turned up towards his mother, he couldn’t have heard her right...but he glanced around and saw how the others where stepping forward and he quickly did the same, leaving Sandstream. scoutkit, jasperkit, and briarkit. today marks your sixth moon of life, from now until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as scoutpaw, jasperpaw, and briarpaw. Scoutkit had came to a stop between his brothers, both where taller compared to him but he stood with his shoulders high, and couldn’t help but feel pride go though his pelt as he got his apprentice title. I’m SCOUTPAW!!!! He wanted to chase his tail just for the fun of it but when his mom started speaking of mentors, scoutpaw listened and watched his brothers as they got their mentors. When his mothers gaze landed on him, he noticed another cat had came up beside him as his mother spoke. Lightningflower, she’s always been nice to us when we got out of the nursery. I’m glad I’ve got her as a mentor and not some grouchy cat like Fireclaw. He thought to himself and turned to the she-cat. Hello Lightningflower! I’m really honored to be your apprentice...thank you. He said and glanced around, knowing he needed to touch his nose to her but she was a bit taller and he decided to not make himself look odd and wait. Though he turned his gaze back to his mother when she told them to that they were watching the camp that night. Okay I will!
OOC|| Notes|| I lost my muse...kinda rambled but it's a long post which doesn't count...but It's here! If I messed up or did something wrong I promise to change it I'm just glad I got the time to post this!Mom had me doing a lot of chores today...

lightningflower looked almost bored to be sitting there at the end of the group. she listened in to the cats being called, some to get their warrior names, others to become apprentices. she heard her name get called to take on dawnheart's kit, scoutkit, now scoutpaw. she couldn't be more thrilled about it, but it did give her something to do besides lie around and soak in the sun. it was just something she was used to do anyway. hunting, patrolling and then soaking in the sun into her long mangy fur coat.
she watched as the young apprentice, scoutpaw, come up to her. he spoke a few words, yada yada. did he just say it was honor for him to be her apprentice? what honor was there to give? she was just a warrior like anyone else in the camp. she didn't do anything special or outrageous. it was just the way of the clans to have apprentices and warriors. waht did she do to get someone acting like the were much older than they appear? "act your age, you'll lose that youthfulness when you're older, scoutpaw. no one wants a suck-up." she may have sounded a bit sour, but it was just her personality kicking in as she touched noses with the kit after seeing he was having trouble trying to reach her nose.
it wasn't her fault, she was such a big cat. it was all the fur she owned. it was terrible to clean and often took her sometime to fully get her coat shiny and soft. though the kits often thought it was hilarious to play with her fluffy tail when she wasn't looking, as if. it didn't bother her, but still made her think otherwise about letting them play with it at times. was this apprentice ready for the challenge to work his way up to be a successful warrior? she only wondered what this kit must be going through. a father dying the night before, a clan leader watching over in starclan, and a new one taking its place, their mate taking their place. oh the horrors she could be thinking if something else happened instead of what had already happened. she could only wonder.
STATUS; finished STARING; everyone in TC SPEECH; 372 NOTES; Did I mention, Lightningflower takes after Yellowfang in the books? Grouchy and sour at times. And why is that everyone counts all the words in their post, instead of the words they written? ya all include your post form as well.

Yes! Silverwolf thought the words in her head as she said when becoming a full warrior. Eclipsepaw and Lillypaw had said the same, and now the ceremony had to continue on. Jasperkit, Briarkit, Scoutkit, Mintpaw and Spottedpaw were called over. What about Applekit? Silverwolf wondered. Wasn't she becoming an apprentice too? O well. Silverwolf continued to listen. Scoutkit, Jasperkit, and Briarkit were now Scoutpaw, Jasperpaw, and Briarpaw, but Silverwolf was not announced as one of they're mentors. Her heart sank. I guess I'll just have to wait for a while now. She thought sadly. Then Fireclaw became Spottedpaw's new mentor, and Silverwolf heart lurched when her name was called. She was now Mintpaw's mentor, and not all hope was gone.
As that part of the ceremony ended, Silverwolf got up and walked over to her new apprentice. She bent down to tough noses with Mintpaw, then sat beside her. What about the deputy!?!? Silverwolf started to get frustrated inside. This whole time she was waiting to get an apprentice, and for the new deputy, and she had gotten her apprentice, but still, no deputy had been announced. Why? Silverwolf fought the urge to shout out, Who's the new deputy going to be? but she would not let herself. She would have to be patient. Everything else was done, so now it was time to name the new Deputy. Her heart was racing faster than ever now. Then, out of nowhere, her mind went blank.
She was in a deep thought. Thinking about her new Apprentice, Mintpaw. She now had to complete this apprentice's training, and she decided to start with battle moves... Well, the smart thing to do would be to find out how far along she was first. Then Silverwolf wondered if Mintpaw and Spottedpaw were best friends like Eclipsepaw and Lillypaw were. She would figure that out later. Silverwolf could see her and Mintpaw training, practicing hunters crouches, battle moves, exploring more territory, going out on patrols together...
Then everything went black again. She blinked, and when she opened her eyes, she was back in ThunderClan camp, staring at Dawnheart. When would Dawnheart travel to the Mothermouth to receive her 9 lives and become Dawnstar? She wondered. Then, still looking at Dawnheart, Silverwolf thought about the new Deputy. She looked around her, looking at other possible deputies. If only StarClan had guaranteed herself a place as leader someday, then Silverwolf wouldn't have to worry so much. If she wasn't chosen as Deputy today, then she would probably never become a deputy. By the time Dawnheart joined StarClan and the deputy became leader and chose another deputy, Silverwolf would probably be with Starclan, or would be an elder. Especially being a leader, Dawnheart would live for many moons still. She let out a short, silent, and brief sigh. It had been Silverwolf's dream to become leader since she was a kit, but it was probably the dream of many other warriors too. If so, then if she became deputy, she be taking other warriors dreams of becoming a deputy away, just as her's would be taken away if someone else was chosen as Deputy. She really had to stop thinking about this. She had had an apprentice, so she was able to become deputy, but would Dawnheart really choose her over everyone else? That was the question.

It was a pleasant enough evening, and Emberflare was feeling sprightly as he trotted back into camp with a couple of mice dangling between his teeth. His solo hunting expedition had been short but successful, and he nodded greetings to clanmates that passed him by as he set his catch down on the swollen pile of prey.
Over the murmur of the camp, an unusual voice rung out, calling the clan together. Well, not unusual, really, seeing as Dawnheart was the deputy of the Clan - but, Emberflare was more used to hearing the deep, rich tone of Emberstar, his leader. Amber eyes swiveled towards the source of the sound and tufty ginger ears pricked up; normally, Emberflare was never this eager to attend Clan meetings, but the change had piqued his interest.
The ThunderClan deputy stood smartly on the edge of the Highrock, her sky-and-earth colored eyes gazing calmly on the cats below her. Still, beneath the exterior of serenity, the russet warrior sensed something unsettling the silver she-cat. A trickle of fear went down his spine - Could it be...? the tom thought. Dawnheart chose that particular moment to explain her presence, and in turn confirmed his fears.
"Many of you may be wondering why I am up here, rather than Emberstar... last night, our leader succumbed to the sickness that had been dogging him for the past half-moon and has left to join StarClan." Gasps filled the air, and Emberflare felt his heart sink. His lips tightened, and he lowered his head in grief. The warrior envied Dawnheart, who proceeded to elaborate on the sickness in a strong voice, betraying none of the emotion that she very probably felt. After all, the pair had been lovers as well as leaders, and it must have been devastating for her to lose him. And still she carried on stoicly, a feat that Emberflare knew he'd never be able to replicate if he was in the same position.
The deputy then switched to a slightly brighter note, and announced two new warriors: Lilysong and Eclipseheart. Then she moved on briskly to the new apprentices; three in total, plus two who were reassigned mentors. Emberflare watched half-heartedly as their mentor's names were announced. As usual, his name wasn't included. Oh yes, he'd had an apprentice too, once, way back in the day... the warrior's thoughts turned sour as he remembered how she had also died of sickness, and hadn't had the chance to ever become a proper warrior. Since then, many apprentice ceremonies had taken place, and each time Emberflare had hoped to redeem himself as a mentor. That hope had faded over the moons, as he had never again been called up to touch noses with a young cat and teach them the ways of the warrior.
The striped tom glanced up at Dawn - well, I'd better get used to calling her Dawnstar, now that Emberstar's with StarClan - and watched as she smiled softly down at her Clan, the rays of the setting sun lighting up her eyes with warm color. She's still got to make her choice for deputy, thought Emberflare. The hope that had once blazed so strongly in his chest when he was young had since died down; the tom knew that there were many solid candidates for deputy, all younger and more promising than he was.

as he pressed his head against her shoulder, she felt a warmth envelop the contacted area. the warmth similar to that of a family member's touch, or what she believed it to be. the times she touched her mother like that, a nuzzle to the shoulder; she could barely remember, but she could still remember that kind of warmth. it caused the faintest smile to flicker onto her lips for a split second, almost invisible.
'ah, you'll be able to watch my apprentice test,' well yes, that was a fairly good point. and it brought her a bit of something to look forward to. but then what he said next brought a light frown to her lips, though barely noticeable before it too disappeared.
'my momma's picking you as deputy. i can feel it.' no. he was wrong. the faintest breath of a chuckle broke past her lips, but nothing more as she slightly shook her head. it was a soft shake, but it meant much. the main thing she thought about was lennox. no, lennox wasn't an issue to her. she loved him. but, she could never be deputy with her heart belonging to the loner. one day, she'd part from the clan, or he'd part from his solitude. she could never be deputy. not a true one, at least. her past and her present were against her on that part.
but, for now, she couldn't bring herself to mind too much.
again, she shook her head. "no. i'm not suited for deputy," she murmured softly, "it's complicated, but i'm just.. not." perhaps their was a bit of pain or disappointment in her tone, but she didn't mean it. really, she didn't believe she would be able to deal with being a deputy, with all those duties and the pressure of being the next leader on their shoulders. or perhaps she could. she was strong. but she had enough tests in her life. for now. there would be more to come, and hopefully, not as a surpassing to-be leader.
then the probably tense moment dispersed as the kit bounded over to become an apprentice. listening to him was amusing, and it made her almost proud. dawnheart - star - must have been truly proud to have a kit like jasperpaw. and probably concerned as well.
go out there and show them, jaspersoul. she had faith in the little one. faith in the entire clan, too, but the little lad was like a son to her. and she felt so pleasant to be a companion of his.

Fireblaze smiled as apperintces were made warriors and kits were made apperintces. "The clan goes strong once again," he murmured, his orange and black tail flicking against the ground quietly. Sighing the creamy orange tom glanced at the sky and wondered who Dawnstar would choose as the new dupety. Shaking his head, his yellow eyes blinked and waited silently for Dawnstar to continued the ceromony.
