Duskrose of RiverClan
________________________________________________________________
Name: Duskrose
Age: 36 moons
Gender: She-cat
Clan: RiverClan
Rank: Warrior
________________________________________________________________
Reason For Name:
Duskrose was born at dusk, so it was natural to be given that name. Her father named her, and it was always a proud thought that her father played an active part when she was young. When made a warrior, Duskrose's last part of the name came from the fragile yet prickly rose. It was in honor of her apprenticeship.
Previous Names:
Dusk-kit, Duskpaw.
________________________________________________________________
One Sentence Description: Tabby she-cat with blue eyes.
Appearance:
Duskrose is a smaller sized female with a slim built and dainty paws. she is a tabby, which explains the stripe pattern on her body and the traditional trademark 'M' on the forehead. she is covered in various colors, most noticeably the dark splashes of light black and gray on her back, barely visible black stripes, and streaks of beige across her rear. The colors creep up along her neck and shoulders, to her head where the back of it is black. On either side of her chest is a light peach underneath black stripes overlapping. That same peach is splashed on her left side of the face. The right side is a muddy brown with a white muzzle, chest and stomach. while she is slim and has a thin pelt, her tail has a considerable amount of fur on it. the tabby stripes are more consistent, leaving little of any other color but two. The tabby has heavy black stripes on her fluffy tail, the base color being brown. Light brown legs accompany her look, lightly striped - almost splotched - and with white dipped paws. Duskrose has muddy blue eyes, almost turquoise in appearance but much darker.

Personality:
Over the moons, Duskrose has become a rather cold and suspicious she-cat. She is not social, preferring to spend time by herself and gets a tad touchy when somebody attempts to to be nice or interrupts her alone moments. She just doesn't understand why somebody would want to talk to her; she hasn't done anything special, she has no friends, and she doesn't participate in Clan life outside of doing regular duties. In short; she isn't important, why attempt talking to her? You can prattle on about each cat is important to the Clan but she'd just walk away or tell you to shut up. Depends on her mood. The she-cat is a bit of a loner, if you haven't guessed. If she were to make a friend or two, it'd have to be with somebody with a messed life. It's strange, but she is attracted to people with a more messed up life than she had. Call it what you will, the fact that she has to have those cats around her to feel better about herself or that she wants to find others like her. Whatever. She's not likely to run about with stuck-up cats or mooning females.
Besides being a moody sort, Duskrose is very intelligent. She isn't exactly held down by Clan morals to cloud her judgment. She is able to see beyond the constant religion and think for herself. She wonders about how much the Clans actually know beyond StarClan. If they could put aside their fears, who knows how much the Clans would know? Not to say she doesn't believe, but she's sitting on the fence. Knowledge is powerful, religion only gets you so far.
Duskrose has a sharp wit, but she barely says anything out of line. She usually says foul things in her head and something falsely sweet out loud. She doesn't want to get into trouble and be punished to clean elder's bedding or something disgusting. She's a bit of a germ phobic, and her moss and fur is always clean. But if somebody does tick her off, she's more prone to verbal abuse than physical. She saves the physical for her Clan, whom she is secretly loyal to. She puts on an air of carefree but she'd hate for anybody to hurt them.
Likes: when it rains, solitary moments; taking a walk etc, arguing aka proving a point, complete loyalty, being correct, intelligent conversations
Dislikes: horrible weather (storms, etc), lack of sleep, being reminded to do duties and being bothered in general, cats who challenge her, screaming and wailing kits

History:
Duskrose, then Dusk-kit, had one other sibling in the same litter as her. her parents were medium warriors, not great and not poor either. as such their names are unimportant. her brother, however, became her whole world. his name was Redkit, and the two were always together doing something. he was a minute older than her, and became quite protective of his little sister. she proudly displayed him to anybody who got close. their kithood adventures were cut short many times; they got into trouble and sentenced to the den of doom aka the nursery for days on end. when it was time to get apprenticed, the current leader chose respectable mentors. Duskpaw got Greencloud, Redpaw Icestripe. the two older cats were siblings too, so the younger apprentices trained quite a bit with each other.
Redpaw sailed through his training, being a natural hunter and fighter. Duskpaw was slower, having issues with anything her mentor taught her. she was clumsy while stalking prey, she jumped right into the river when fishing (prefering to dive into the fish rather than wait), and was overall impatient. she grew timid and withdrawn under the eye of Greencloud, who reproached her for failing repeatingly. Redpaw stuck up for his sister during these verbal beatings, one time taking a swipe at Greencloud much to the shock of the cats. he was later punished, respectively. after this event, Greencloud made Duskpaw do simple minded chores around the camp. the other apprentices were relieved of these duties. Redpaw thought this was unfair and threatened to go to the deputy, but Duskpaw, worn down by low standards, said it was fine. she never hoped to be anything more than a slave.
rumors spread around camp that she was slow, dim-witted...the usual chitter chatter. Duskpaw put up with the abuse in silence, cleaning out dens and helping to gather moss and herbs for the medicine cat. by this time she began to get headaches, severe ones that made her light headed and sick, especially during foul days. again, she put up with this alone. Redpaw watched his sister suffer, determined to one day change the way the Clan ran. this determination lead him to his obsession of becoming deputy, and then leader. Duskpaw supported her brother's dreams when he shared them, often playing make believe when the two were alone. she was but a humble warrior and him the big strong leader Redstar! those were the happiest days of her apprenticeship, since she could pretend she was actually worthwhile.
but not everybody in the Clan was ready to give up on the she-cat. Cedarnose, a rather small russet-colored tom. he had his eye on Duskpaw wandering around camp for awhile instead of training, now having the authority to do something about it. with the Leader's permission, he reassigned Greencloud to another apprentice and took on Duskpaw as his own. it was so late in her training, but those chores actually did some good; they built up her muscles and stamina. though late, Cedarnose trained her. Duskpaw got to see her warrior ceremony after all.
Redpaw became Redclaw, and Duskpaw was named Duskrose.
unlike apprenticeship, Duskrose became a better warrior when she did not have anybody watching her and degrading her. she was a brilliant hunter for her patience, though not the best fighter. she accepted this, relying on her brains over brawn. between warrior duties, she spent time with her brother by the water's edge. their parents had long since moved to the elder's den, both relatively old when they became parents. Duskrose visited them when she could, but Redclaw had more important things on his mind.
he still aspired to become a leader. his intentions where good, mind, but his ambition drove him daily. it was all he could think about, all he cared about. after a year of normal warrior duties, Redclaw grew bored of his life. he stopped seeing his sister, ignoring her at every step. it made him look weak. he attached himself to a very popular she-cat in the Clan to gain favour, and pretty soon earned an apprentice of his own.
Redclaw's betrayal and shun of her drove Duskrose to depression. but yet again, one cat was there to pick her off her feet. her former mentor started paying attention to her, though he always had time to chat to the young warrior before. he sat with her at Gatherings and Clan meetings, arranged patrols together, etc. Duskrose believed him to be a mere friend, not thinking about his other intentions. pretty soon everybody else noticed the tom paying special attention to the young she-cat, especially Redclaw. he marched up to her one day and told her to be careful, but she defended her friend saying that Cedarnose was only picking up where her brother left off. insulted, Redclaw walked off.
nearing her third year, Duskrose's parents passed away and she was reminded of the bond of family. she sought out Redclaw, who's mate had birthed kittens. the two had started a family together, but the she-cat often complained to the other queens that Redclaw was distracted and distant from her. Duskrose barely saw any of her brother, but the news he was ignoring his family insulted her. he wasn't spending any time with his sister, gave her up to be with this new she-cat, and now he gave this cat up to do what? she quickly went on his trail, finding him near the river where they often played during apprenticeship. Redclaw glared at his sibling as she neared, but she wasn't the weak minded fool she used to be. she met his gaze, and he was surprised she didn't flinch. he mocked her, and she went on to ask why he was ignoring his family. he replied he didn't care about his mate; he only took her to gain popularity in RiverClan, that the kittens were a mistake, and that since he didn't become Deputy the whole thing blew up in his face. Duskrose felt chilled by this knowledge, then angry, and ran at her brother with her claws out. Instead of meeting her challenge, Redclaw ran off. He didn't come back.
Cedarnose never received Duskrose's affection. he died alone, greencough slowly eating him. though Duskrose wanted to be by his side, as a friend, to aide him on his way to StarClan, the medicine cat forbid it. there was no reason for a healthy young she-cat to catch greencough. She watched them take the body away and bury it far from camp. Without her brother, her friend, and parents, Duskrose is totally alone in the world. She has become withdrawn, doing warrior duties only to amuse herself for a short time. Other than that, you can usually find her sleeping.
IC Example:
((ooc: this is from another site where Duskrose is the leader of a Clan. x'D I have't RP'ed her recently.))
Duskstar heard reports those Twolegs were acting up again. every new-leaf they came back to the lake with their monsters and ran about the water with them, scaring the fish away. of course RiverClan caught other types of food, but the fish was the main source of prey the Clan depended on. she could just hear the jibes from the other Clans, smirking that RiverClan was just weak because they relied on one type of prey! as if! the leader's eyes narrowed. the other Clans couldn't bare getting their paws wet so the fish rightfully belonged to RiverClan. the others were weak, complaining about water. RiverClan did what they did best. they played on their strengths.
law of survival. or something.
she made her way through the grasses, recovering from the harsh leaf-bare and beginning to grow once more. the grass felt prickly even after new-leaf had come for many days now and washed away the snow. still stiff from the winter, she supposed. it took time to heal. ahead she could just see the monster's den, and the unmistakable stench of Twolegs. so, they came early this year after all. looking over her shoulder at the absent patrol, she thought maybe it would be wiser to go back to camp and gather more cats. then again she was always one to do things alone. she couldn't trek all the way back then come here again in the same day; once she was at camp she wouldn't feel up to it again, and just send warriors instead. what fun would that be? if she was lucky, another patrol would spot their leader. or... ugh, ShadowClan.
her teal eyes scanned the border in the distance. yes, ShadowClan would see anything amiss. those cats patrolled their border fiercely. if it involved Twolegs they'd come running. not that she was scared of Twolegs! they were just overgrown animals without the capacity to understand a feline's language.
”Here I go” Duskstar mumured, but she soon haulted. her paws teetered, wondering why on earth the Twolegs cut the grass away and made room for such hard ground. every time patrols were sent out onto the pavement here, they came back with scratched paws. she lifted her own paws to examine the soft pink flesh below the lining of fur. she loathed getting dirty and was sensitive to pain. this made her pause even more, looking forlorn at the pavement before making up her mind; she had to check the Twoleg activity out. it was her duty as a Clan leader. Russetstripe couldn't do everything for her. it was a matter of dignity.
the tabby she-cat cut swiftly across the pavement, ignoring the scratching sensation on her pads, and moved toward the boat house. on the lake she saw the monsters roaming around with Twolegs in them, but on the shores it was quiet. she knew there was a Twolegnest nearby, on ShadowClan and far beyond the Clan territories; it was none of her business.
it was late noon by the time this little exploration got going. she was always one to rise late. RiverClan's leader didn't find anything unusual around the boat house, nothing that wasn't there before and with the Twolegs being out of a cat's grasp in action she couldn't do anything more. RiverClan would have to ignore them until they went away in leaf-fall. she wondered if the other Clans had issues with the Twolegs, wishing it so. year after year the same problems rose in RiverClan and she wanted some of it taken off her Clan.
