Tawnyclaw padded out into the marsh with an eager smile on her face. This was her first time out as a mentor, and she was determined to pass on as much knowledge in fighting and hunting on to her new apprentice. "Jaggedpaw" she mewed with an evil smile as she turned around to face her apprentice. "What do you know about fighting...."

"What do I know about fighting..." she muttered beneath her breath. She paused, deep in thought. "Well, I know never to turn my back on an enemy. I know to be light on my feet, and that brute strength doesn't always win. I know to walk quietly, to attack fast, and to keep an eye on my target at all times. I know that camouflage and foliage can be used to my advantage. I know I should try and keep on higher ground, and that I should always fight with all physical and mental means possible," she said confidently. She matched Tawnyclaw's malevolent smile with a crooked one of her own. This was going to be fun.

"Very well done Jaggedpaw" mewed Tawnyclaw with her evil smile as evil as ever. "Then you must also know, that a key part of attacking another cat, is the element of suprise!" The fur around her neck prickled, and she braced herself, baring her fangs. "Now" she hissed mockingly, "I want you to attack me, think about it, but don't think too hard, just do it, lets see what you got!!" She smiled at her apprentice, the young cat wanting to learn.....This was the way to do it! Tawnyclaw braced herself, digging her claws into the earth, as she waited for Jaggedpaw to attack...

It took Jaggedpaw less than ten seconds to think out a quick, simple plan. "Wait, what? I don't understand. I don't want to hurt you!" she replied slowly, her face a mask of confusion. Suddenly, she darted to the left, aiming her large paw for Tawnyclaw's right flank. Her paws were sheathed, but there was enough force in the blow to possibly knock her mentor off balance.

Tawnyclaw smiled as her apprentice said her few words. 'She doesn't want to hurt me' she thought....and then Jaggedpaw darted at her. She felt her apprentices paw swipe against her flank and she took a few steps back. Gaining her balance she shook her head slightly, and turned to her apprentice with a triumphant smile. "Well done Jaggedpaw!" she mewed holding her tail up high. "That was very nicely planned out!" she purred happily to her apprentice, she truly was a quick learner! "You will do great!" mewed Tawnyclaw, "You will be one of the best warriors ever! Now" she paused getting into a low crouch.... "try something new...."

Jaggedpaw bowed her head low in silent gratitude. She thought of all the moves she could use, and decided on a tricky one. She crouched low, and pounced over Tawnyclaw, landing behind her. She swiped her right paw underneath her mentor's claws, trying to catch her off balance again. If she succeeded, Jaggedpaw would try to jump on top of Tawnyclaw and pin her down.

Tawnyclaw kept her eyes locked on Jaggedpaw. She felt her apprentices paw swipe under her own and she jumped steadily into the air. She turned towards Jaggedpaw with a suprised but ready smile on her face and lashed out a swipe of her own towards Jaggedpaws flank. "Nice move" she hissed as she pushed her apprentice over. "But you must be quick.....try again". She took a few paw-steps back and kept her eyes locked on her apprentice.....as if she were a target...

Jaggedpaw kept her mouth clenched shut as she hit the dirt. She scrambled to her feet, determined to get the upper hand. She lashed out with her left paw, trying to hit Tawnyclaw on the right side of her cheek. She threw all her strength into the blow, and all the swiftness she could muster. She hoped to catch her mentor off guard with this simple maneuver.

Tawnyclaws eyes widdened as she felt Jaggedpaws paw meet her cheek. Thoughts of The accident with Icestorm and the large monster ran threw her mind as her apprentice successfully knocked her off balance. "What!" she hissed as she felt her paws lose grip on the earth, and she fell steadily to the hard ground. She lay there stunned for a moment then looked at Jaggedpaw. Withought getting up she smiled, and purred with satisfaction. "Well done Jaggedpaw" she mewed "That was very unexpected"
She got to her paws finally and smiled at her apprentice.... "Once more please!" she hissed with a smile

Jaggedpaw smiled grimly as she finally succeeded. She let out a little sigh before trying her next maneuver. With one more burst of energy, she jumped high in the air, hoping to land in the dead center of Tawnyclaw's back. She threw all of her weight into the attack, in attempt to overpower her mentor. Time seemed to slow down as she was lodged in the air, her face resolute in concentration.

Tawnyclaw watched as her apprentice jumped into the air, but the sun blinded her as she looked up. She lost visual of Jaggedpaw and screached looking at the ground. In her heart she knew she would be defeated, and found it true as she felt Jaggedpaws weight barrel down on her back. Tawnyclaw felt her own paws jerk out from beneath her as her body swiftly fell to the ground with a thud. For a moment she felt defeated, like her apprentice was better than her, but she quickly came to her senses. "Well done Jaggedpaw" she mewed with a smile as she got to her paws. "I think that is enough training for the day" She turned towards camp and looked back at Jaggedpaw with a big smile, "Come she said, its best we got back to camp"

Jaggedpaw got up from the ground, shaking the dirt off her grey fur. "Thanks," she said between breaths. She smiled, only her barbed fangs showing from beneath her fur. She had finished her first day of training! She followed Tawnyclaw back toward camp, proud of her success. Jaggedpaw couldn't wait to tell Rainpaw about her first training session, and ask about her's also. "So, what are we going to do tomorrow?" her low voice mewed, echoing softly in the quiet forest.

Tawnyclaw padded with Jaggedpaw back to camp, her heart still beating fast from the training. She looked to her apprentice and smiled as she padded onward. "We will probably go on a hunting patrol tomorrow to get up on your hunting skills" she mewed gently and nodded her head... "In fact yes, thats just what we're going to do"
She purred through her words as she slowly recognized the gorse tunnel, and plunged into it....it felt good being back at camp....
TO: well, CAMP lol
